Santa Fe Angling Club
Fish A Variety Of Private Waters In Northern New Mexico!
The Santa Fe Angling Club ("SFAC") was established to provide private water fishing for locals who would not otherwise have access to the Club's exclusive private ranches. Each ranch is a separate entity and club members can choose to join one or more property. Each property is limited to around 20 members to reduce pressure on the resource and scheduling problems. In 2006 there will be three ranches available and we hope to add one additional property every year.
The purpose of this page is to provide information to the Club's members and to those interested in learning more about SFAC. Please visit this page frequently to stay up-to-date. If any member or interested party would like to provide input, please email The Reel Life at info@reellifesantafe.com.
The Pecos Ranch:
This ranch is now pretty full of members. Stocking has taken place.
Fishing is great RIGHT NOW! Many 20"+ fish are being taken with black leeches, egg-sucking leeches and all manner of streamers. Get on soon or you might might miss some early season action.
The Chama Ranch: We are now taking membership applications for this incredible stretch of river. It is a beautiful 3 mile stretch of the Chama near the village of Los Brazos. It is a productive wild rainbow fishery with infrequent brown trout, carp and migrating Kokanee. We will be augmenting with stockers. This ranch is only 1 1/2 hours from Santa Fe with easy access for those that don't have four wheel drive. Even though the Pecos Ranch is closer, you that have been on the ranch road know that it takes some guts and some time to get down there. So, the Chama Ranch provides great day access fishing without the worries of off-roading. Call the shop to find out more! The Chama Ranch is being offered at $600 per season due to its prolific wild trout fishery and the intensive management that goes into maintaining the habitat.
The Gallinas Ranch: We hope to open this ranch to members by April 1, 2006. This one is very interesting. There is roughly 3 miles of the Gallinas river and more than a dozen ponds set up in a very intricate pattern from the upper valley to the bottom of the ranch. Upon a recent visit to the ranch there were wild browns and stocked rainbows observed. Nothing huge, but legitimate 14 inchers were seen. There are 4 cabins on the ranch and we haven't figured out what we are going to do with them yet. Price: Because of difficulties in putting all of the properties together at one time, we decided to do it a-la-carte. A person could join as many as he or she wishes. Each property is available for $500 per year. Rules: - Licensees may bring up to 2 guests per visit
- Licensees must contact The Reel Life to reserve a beat

Water Alert SFAC has been doing some research and analysis regarding the drought conditions and combustibility of the Santa Fe National Forest. It is our belief that if the Forest does not get significantly more moisture between mid-February and mid-March, the Forest will likely be closed. The drought will have impacts on fishing on private as well as public lands. Water levels across the state are likely to be low and even run-off may be insignificant. If we do not experience significantly more moisture, also expect higher water temperatures. Please telephone or e-mail if we can answer any questions! The Reel Life is an equal opportunity service provider operating under permits from the USDA Forest Service. |
